THE PHOTO SUBJECT: Racing action and spectators at the Del Monte Oval Track, early 1900s
Originally built for horse racing, the one-mile dirt oval track at Del Monte was used for auto racing for a short period after horse racing was made illegal in California in 1909. This photo shows two cars racing around the track, with spectator cars lined up along the infield fence. Today, the Monterey County Fairgrounds stand on the site of the Del Monte track.

They were selected from a negative file of thousands of photographs taken by official Pebble Beach Company photographers including, notably, Julian P. Graham and William C. Brooks. These and other images are available as fine art photographs through the Images of Pebble Beach art gallery. As you might imagine, gallery patrons are often hard-pressed to select just one or two photographs to take home. The

makes 100 of these fabulous, historical images available to enjoy again and again.
The book is out of print. New or excellent condition copies cost 0 and up, and are becoming exceedingly hard to find. At the gallery, selected photographs from this collection run 0-0.

were carefully printed to bring out the real look of the original black-and-white photographs. These so beautifully printed that they are suitable for framing. We occasionally get in a copy that is damaged, has a weak binding, or has a few pieces already cut out. Since the books are not suitable for sale to our fine art customers, we make the individual prints available.
