    Description

    A quite rare hat.  EARLY couture chapeau from Christian Dior himself.  Dates to the early to mid 1950s, when Dior himself was still designing.  Made of finest quality silk satin with a matte finish, expertly draped into the silhouette of a nun's habit headdress!   So cutting edge for its day.  Completely hand sewn, even the inner head-size Petersham ribbon is hand picked and stitched (as expected).  The base of the hat is made of what today is a rare material...real millinery willow!  this was used in most of the French Haute Couture hats at the time.   The willow base is covered in a light and fine black silk chiffon.  An important hat for the serious collector of millinery and fashion history.   White satin label is Christian Dior - New York.   Very possibly made in France, as some of these Dior New York hats were.
