Description
Ty Cobb Sliding By Conlon 23" x 28" 1st Gen Glass Print From Original NegativeOffered is a high quality 1st generation 23" x 28" professionally colorized photograph of Ty Cobb sliding taken by famous baseball photographer Charles Conlon in 1911. This is arguably the most famous baseball photo ever taken. In order to truly understand the quality of this piece, look at the close up of Cobb included in the listing. You can actually see the veins popping in his neck. The colors in this huge high resolution image were printed directly on durable glass and then a bright, opaque layer of white ink was applied directly under the color layer adding depth to the overall color. A little background on this piece: In order to do this we need to start with the most important component - the image. The starting point for producing this piece was taking a high-resolution scan of the original negative. We personally took the 5” x 7” glass negative to a professional firm in Chicago and had it scanned. The result is a scan that is huge, which allows us to produce prints that are equally huge. More specifically, this scan is 10,666 pixels x 13,333 pixels. To put this in perspective, in order to produce an 8 x 10 image without distortion you need a scan that is 2,400 pixels x 3,000 pixels (basically multiply each dimension by 300). So with this scan we are able to produce an undistorted print that is 35” x 44”. In order to test this we produced 30” x 40” Platinum Palladium prints and they are spectacular! The Color - Armed with this high-resolution scan, we employed a person skilled at “colorizing” digital images and provided him painstaking research as to the colors of the stands, the uniforms, the skin tones and every aspect of color that would bring this to modern life. The Execution - In order to best execute this piece for the collector, we chose to produce this grand sized print in glass. With this size we felt it unnecessary to go with a medium that would require framing for display. What results is a high quality collectible that will make a statement when you hang it on the wall.
