UP man dies after BMW allegedly driven by BJP leader’s son runs over him

Another high-profile hit-and-run case has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti where a man was killed after being hit by a BMW, which was being driven allegedly by the son of a BJP leader.
The family of Ram Lal Gupta, outraged and dissatisfied with the police’s initial response, protested on the streets, demanding swift action against the accused.
The car belonged to Hani, also known as Azmatullah, the son of local BJP leader Hamidullah.
The incident took place near Kartar Talkies. The victim’s family have claimed that the car was intentionally driven into Ram Lal Gupta, who worked as a cook.
According to Gyanti Devi, the victim’s wife, her husband returned home on Thursday afternoon and went out for a short walk. When he was standing on the roadside, Gyanti Devi said the BMW driver drove towards him intentionally and fatally injured him.
Gupta was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to the victim’s family, Hamidullah himself was driving the BMW at the time of the incident. Both father and son are at large.
Gyanti Devi said her husband was the sole breadwinner for their family, which includes their four young children. “Our lives depended on his income,” she said. “With him gone, I am uncertain about how to raise our children or secure their future”.
In response to the family’s protest, police assured them that their complaint had been registered and that appropriate legal steps were being taken.
A police official confirmed that a formal case has been lodged based on the family’s statement and that a thorough investigation into the matter is underway.
